China, Russia Veto UN Syria Resolution – July 19, 2012
Russia and China vetoed a Security Council resolution that would have threatened sanctions against Syria’s leadership, which is under assault by armed rebels in the streets of the capital Damascus. It was the third time Russia and China vetoed Security Council resolutions that are intended to pressure the government to leave power. This latest failure at diplomacy points to a growing likelihood that Syria’s fate will be decided by bloody clashes in the streets of the capital. Chinese Ambassador Li Baodong said Beijing vetoed because the resolution had “uneven content intended to put pressure on only one party.”

Netanyahu: Hezbollah Carried Out Bulgaria Attack – July 19, 2012
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Lebanon’s Iranian-backed Hezbollah organization was behind the bombing that killed at least five Israeli tourists in Bulgaria and vowed to track down the perpetrators. “[Wednesday]’s attack was committed by Hezbollah — the long arm of Iran,” Netanyahu told reporters in a press conference in Jerusalem. “We will continue to pursue the attackers and exact a heavy price from those who support them.” The suicide attack on a bus at the airport in Burgas, a popular Bulgarian vacation spot on the Black Sea, killed five Israelis, the Bulgarian bus driver and the attacker, according to the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.
Crisis Pregnancy Moms To Meet Congress – July 18, 2012
Women who received support from pregnancy help centers and rejected abortion are bringing their children to meet with U.S. lawmakers as part of Heartbeat’s Babies Go to Congress campaign Thursday. Women have been thanking pregnancy help organizations for their support for decades and these moms are thrilled to have an opportunity to tell their stories to national leaders. Courageous women like Jessica Gore, who is excited to bring her eight-year-old daughter to meet her elected officials, will testify to the fact that pregnancy help organizations provide a life-changing experience. “I went to the sonogram appointment at Burleson Pregnancy Aid Center even though I had already been to Planned Parenthood and thought that abortion was right for me,” said Jessica from Burleson, Texas. “But when I looked at the sonogram screen, I knew that I had been lied to. What I saw on the screen was not a ‘piece of tissue’ like Planned Parenthood had told me. The tiny flicker of light, a heartbeat, was my child. I was instantly in love.”
President Obama’s Executive Orders – July 16, 2012
President Obama has offered over 900 Executive Orders (EO) to control everything inside the US as well as to force us to submit to international regulations. In EO 13603, for example, entitled, “National Defense Resources Preparedness,” Obama says (among other things) that [we must]: “be prepared, in the event of a potential threat to the security of the United States, to take actions necessary to ensure the availability of adequate resources and production capability, including services and critical technology, for national defense requirements…” In other words, Obama has the power, through this EO, to “nationalize” (seize?) private assets in order to protect national interests. We should be wary of laws that give the government broad reaching powers in the event of a “potential threat,” especially when there is no clear, set, unchangeable definition of what that means.

Jesus’ Followers Fled Before Jerusalem Destruction – July 16, 2012
Jesus, while looking over the temple mount in Jerusalem shortly before his death, prophesied that its beautiful stones would be thrown down within a generation. He warned that the residents should flee Jerusalem to the mountains when they saw the Roman armies surrounding the city (Luke 21:6,20-21). Eusebius’s Church History (3.5.3) recounts that the Jewish followers of Jesus heeded his warning and fled to Pella for safety before Jerusalem’s destruction. Today, Pella sits outside Tabaqat Fahl, twenty miles south of the Sea of Galilee. Although Pella is only in the foothills of the Transjordanian Mountains, the site seems to fulfill Jesus’ prophecy of a city of refuge.
